To miltary? or not to military? hey everybody! iv been think about this for a year or so and cant make up my mind...have an ideas??((im a senior in high school[cali] n posotivly gonna enlist)) ty
""cant decide on which branch of the (USA) military to enlist in...""
MARINES....
pros: in combat, doing PT every day of ther life, driving tanks n heavy armored vehicles around the world, when u get out I will be ubber 'squared away', on time, fit, organized, confident, have balls , ...and ya.
cons: i herd n read in numerous books the 'beat' the newer recruiters EVERY time they make a mistake, and its 4 years of hell, highest probability that i would die(fatality)(sad times) and they sleep in large tents or bracks while on tour (while other branches are staying in hotels i.e. air force) , and they are treated like **** to make them more 'tough', eat m.r.e.'s. , oh and my entire family hates the marines (probly..bc they actually fight closer to the enemy {compared to other branches} and civilians).
NAVY
pros: ur safe hundreds of miles away from the enemy on a ****** destroyer ship, chow hale (restraunt/ cafiteria) you can eat at every meal (no m.r.e.'s), fairly easyer than other branches, will have easy job on the ship most likely.
cons: on a ship, rocking in the water 24/7 n i get sea sick easly (maybe ill get over it), while in the navy i would learn how to act on a ship, pepare myself;eat;clean;exersize;run; defense; all on a ***** ship ... this seam impractical and unuseful for the rest of my life (b.c ill be on land the rest of my life) you kno what i mean?,i'd be a sailer(lame), ppl dont really respect sailers.
ARMY
pros:like marines but they're easier on you (at least what iv heard), fairly chill, drive sick *** vehicles.
cons: ppl hear ARMY and are like ohhh, war is ...risky buisness, 2nd chance of fatality, hhmmm ya
AIR FORCE:
pros: yyaa!! while in tour they stay in hotels, eat at reastrants, possible would fly a fighter jet (2% of ppl in the force are actually pilets), get a chill job (FIELD MP possible),when u get out it like ubber goood on ur transcript, jobs like it get my airborn or flighting license (or w/e its called),have the least chance of fatality in this brance,
cons: its hella hard to get in lik u need really goood math scores(n i scweeked my way through high school math i.e. D's or C's),probly wouldnt make it in,(fml)(i wish), most likely most boring 4 years of my life,...annndd uuhh yyaa.
COLLEGE
pros:
cons:**** THAT!!, ((jk
im go to a 4 college n get my degree after the military, the military gives your $40K for college when u get out))
.

annndd ya BTW i kind wanna go into the air force the most ...or marines..idk..thats why i pooted this! lmao bbbuutt ya leive a comment with feed baack. TY everyone!! | I'm an Air Force veteran of Iraq and I don't know if the Air Force would be right for you. It is the most difficult to get into (requires the highest ASVAB scores out of all the branches) and while I did Recruiter's Assistance I came across lots of young men who, I hate to say it, just weren't "smart" enough to get into the Air Force. It doesn't mean they are bad people or that their service, had they gone into another branch, is any less meaningful.
Also, you won't be flying ANY planes or helicopters in the Air Force without a college degree. Most Air Force jobs for enlisted people revolve around mission support (communications, logistics, civil engineering etc.), or maintaining the air craft for all the fly boys. If you want to learn about fixing/maintaining planes, military intelligence, or computer security the Air Force is the way to go.
Army, eh, God love 'em but while I was in Iraq most the soldiers I met would openly $hit talk you (easy when they are with 5 other guys with M-16s), trash facilities like the gym, rec tent or lodging, keep people up at night and just generally be *****. The whole time I was there I only met about 3 soldiers who didn't act like redneck jocks.
Navy, well, everyone tells me they have the best food/cooks period, AF is #2. All the Navy guys I met were just generally cool, polite, professional people. If you really want to see the world, go Navy or Air Force. In the Navy if you end up on a ship they will dock in all kinds of different places where you can get shore leave/liberty. In the AF you can hop a flight and go anywhere in the world on leave provided there is room for you and there usually is.
Marines, well, kick butt and take names. Also, how often do you hear about Marines getting taken hostage or getting left behind? Marines really, really, really take care of their own, they take that $hit real serious. There is something to be said for that kind of esprit de corps, plus when it comes to combat training they are the best in the world.
P.S. Don't buy the recruiters crap about "You can go to college while you're in!" That's a huge steaming pile of bs. Do you really think you'll be able to go to school if you're working some crazy schedule (sometimes 12 hour shifts), dealing with squadron meetings, training days, PT etc. and dealing with supervisors who may very well hold it against you that you are trying to better yourself? How are you going to go to school if you get stationed in a foreign country? Do you speak the language? What about all the time you'll be deployed, can you go to school there? The best you'll be able to do is get a crappy on-line degree in computers or business so you can "say" you have a degree. It'll be pretty worthless unless you want to become an officer.
If you think that you'll EVER want to go to school or become an officer, I highly suggest you go to college instead. Doing it later is much more difficult, right now the only person you have to answer to is yourself, not sergeants, commanding officers, girlfriends, guys, wives, deployments etc. Good luck.
Oh yeah, they make study guides for the ASVAB. It will help you get in. I met some guys who were only a few points shy of getting accepted, but they didn't study either. This is a serious decision you're making, approach it seriously. | Why are People so STUPID? I am making a documentary called "Why are People so Stupid?" that is going to make Michael Moore seem like a dolt. For years and years it has boggled my mind why humans are very dumb in social settings. It makes no sense to me and irritates the hell out of me. Before judging me, please read my argument and then explain!
I work in a HUGE museum as a Tour Guide for a famous exhibit. We are a very popular museum with a lot of interactive things to do. But every day, without fail, for the last 4 years, I have been approached by the dumbest guests who proceed to ask the stupidest questions. Here are the top 3:
1) Which button do I press to get to the Museum entrance?
Mind you, this is when we're all in an elevator that leads to the Museum entrance. I'm standing in here with about 9 other people, 2 of them fathers that look like they're made of money, and a bunch of guys with their yuppy mothers. The buttons are CLEARLY marked- P1- Parking, P2- Parking, P3- Museum Entrance. Yet these fools stand looking confused, and then one of them presses the P2 like an idiot. I turned around and said "Ya know, you might want to press the button that says ENTRANCE by it." They all looked confused, then laughed. Come on! How stupid are you? Many of these people have Phds and degrees, are bosses at firms and parents. You're telling me you got all that education and money, but can't read a simple sign? Bullshit! There's no way. Sorry, but in order to get a degree, don't you have to pass things called- EXAMS? That required you to READ information on a sheet of paper? Like, if you can't read signs, I'm to assume you either scammed your degree or had someone else do the work for you.
2) Do we have to PAY to get on the tour?
DUH! It's written only a Gazillion times when you walk in. We have huge HUGE menu-like signs with the prices of things, including the tour. This tour has cost money for 10 years now. It should be something people know. Apparently not- they still ask, and I still tell them "What do you think?"
3) How long is the tour?
Who the **** cares? Why are you asking ME when you should have been asking the Ticket agents when you bought tickets? Didn't you plan your day in advance? That question is irrelevant, and obviously the tour isn't going to last longer then 1/2 an hour. Come on!
Before ripping my head off, understand that I have been dealing with this crap for 4 years now! YOU try working on the floor and dealing with idiots. And there is NO DAMN excuse for their moronic behavior. WHY? Because WHEN I GO to public places, when I GO To museums, I read signs! And I'm 30. I'm a grownup too. I don't ask stupid questions like that. I almost feel like I'm a genius in America. Maybe I am- I have been told I'm smarter then most. Because sorry, I don't care how "out of their element" they are when they go out- you have a degree. Most degrees- especially HIGHER education- require you to do thesis exams, study people, go out and be active in clubs. Most colleges won't accept you if you were'nt active in social stuff. It's not just about test scores. And even here- if you can drive and read signs, you can go to a museum and read signs.
So anyways, why the hell are people so stupid like this? | Now where's the answer button to leave answer ?
Oh never mind , found it.
Sometimes they are just trying to be sociable, many execs and other office
workers just like to ask a lot of questions, to listen to you answer their questions.
Or are simply lost outside of their office environment.
If you don't want to answer their questions, you could get a new work shirt,
that says " I am your tour guide, SHUT UP, and follow me " | Why will NO ONE hire me? Before judging, please read my entire question.
I just turned 30 and am currently living at my parent's house- Thank you- because I quit a job as an Entertainment Host aboard Disney Cruise Lines because it was awful, and very overwhelming. Now I'm stuck with no job. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree and I also have over 10 years of customer service experience, including 4 years working as a Corporate Facilitator Tour Guide at a world famous museum, and also was a Journalist Reporter at a very famous Newspaper company in Chicago (the Tribune, there I said it!)
For some reason though, all of these criteria and qualifications just isn't impressing employment agencies. I've been rejected everywhere I go. I got a phone call from one place downtown that said they wanted me to interview to be a tour guide with their company. Great, I thought. Then they say its only $8.25 an hour!!! That's ******* minimum wage! I have a college degree and tons of experience. I told them in a nice way I was not interested.
I was declined to be a flight attendant. I was declined to be a Teacher's Assistant at a University. I was even declined, get this, to be a WRITER for a company even though I have a degree from a arts school and was a WRITER for a top paper! Like what the ****?
Sorry to rant, but it makes absolutely no sense to me that employers are turning their backs to me. I worked for Disney for Christ's sake! I interview so well, and the only reason I'm coming off upset is because I AM ******* upset! And what's with the lousy pay people are offering me? A college graduate needs a salary, not an hourly wage. This is not right. Any ideas or reasons why this is happening? | | No, a college graduate can take an hourly wage. Take whatever job you can get. It is really difficult finding work right now for everyone. Your not above any job. You sound like you have a very overinflated ego. Interviewers can pick up on that. The next interview you go on-be humble. |
